Dear friends and family,
Within the next few days, our beloved Roston Maxie will begin the process of entering home hospice care.
For more than 12 years, he has heroically battled cancer with strength, dignity, and unwavering faith. He has led a life of love and compassion rooted in his practice of A Course in Miracles, with a deep love and admiration for Jesus. His other great passion in life outside of faith and family is basketball, about which he can talk to anyone for hours. Michael Jordan is his all-time favorite, although as of late, Steph Curry has found his way into the line-up.
Roston is a thinker, a believer, and a man who shows compassion and empathy for all who’ve had the pleasure of being in his presence.
Most of all, he is family.
He is the proud father of nine children, grandfather to twelve, and great-grandfather to three little ones, including Roston Bowie Gray, who is named after him. Roston is a beloved uncle, godfather, and brother. Loving partner and best friend of his honeybunny, the love of his life, Ricia, who has stood faithfully by his side for 54 years.
As he transitions, our focus is comfort, dignity, and peace at home.
Over the past 12 years, while Roston has battled multiple myeloma, they have incurred high medical expenses, which have depleted their savings. While hospice services are covered in part, our family is facing significant additional expenses. We are currently raising $15,000 to help cover essential support services, existing medical bills, lost income due to caregiving, and memorial expenses, as well as other related costs that may arise during this time. Our goal is to meet this need within the next 7–10 days, so we can focus our love and energy completely on him throughout this final chapter.
If you feel led to give, any amount is deeply appreciated. If you cannot give, please share this page and keep our family in your prayers.
Thank you for surrounding Roston with the same love he has given so freely.
With gratitude,
The Maxie Family
