Ross Gill is a hardworking, ocean-loving oyster farmer who’s spent his adult life on the water. Prior to oyster farming, he worked in a marina as a skilled boat mechanic and arc welder. He’s never been one to ask for help, but right now, he needs our support.
Recently, during an extreme rainstorm, Ross took a serious fall while running for shelter and broke his hip. He required emergency surgery and now faces a long recovery, expected to be out of work for approximately 8 months.
To make things even more difficult, Ross doesn’t have health insurance. Like many independent workers and small-scale farmers, he simply couldn’t afford the high premiums. As a result, the medical bills from surgery and ongoing rehabilitation are overwhelming.
Ross is relocating from his home in Florida to Tennessee to stay with his brother, who will help care for him during his rehabilitation. The move, combined with medical bills and living expenses, has put a huge mental and financial strain on him.
What worried Ross most while in the hospital wasn’t himself, but his constant companion and rescue pup, Marky.
Any contribution, big or small, will help cover Ross’s medical expenses, basic living costs, and ensure he has a safe space to heal and rebuild. Thank you for helping Ross get back on his feet and eventually, back to the ocean he loves.
If you cannot donate, please keep Ross in your thoughts, prayers, and share this post. He has made friends far and wide and can use all of the healing vibes.
