My name is Katherine and I am posting this GoFundMe on behalf of my older sister Mary Rose Cissell. Rose, as I call her, is one of the few people I know who found her true calling in life and has spent the last 15 training and boarding horses as the self-employed business owner of Dark Horse Training Center. One November 21st, 2024, Mary Rose experienced a freak accident while working with a horse when the mare she was riding became spooked and fell in her leg. Though she heard a “crunch” she did not realize the extent of her injury and drive 90 minutes home as her foot swelled and the pain intensified. She was immediately taken to the emergency room and was diagnosed with a broken fibula as well as a compound talus fracture. So essentially her ankle is broken in three different places. She was transferred to the University of Louisville Trauma Center, and the next morning underwent successful surgery to insert a plate and screws to help repair her ankle. Thankfully the surgery went well, and she was sent home to begin recovery after two nights in the hospital. *WARNING* graphic images below.
Mary Rose has a very long road ahead while her ankle heals, with months of physical therapy before she can walk unassisted and even longer before she is back in the saddle. As the sole owner and operator of Dark Horse Training Center, she will have to essentially close her business for up to a year while she recuperates. We greatly appreciate all of the prayers and support Mary Rose has already received since the accident. I had to twist her arm to let me set this up but I am asking for help so she can take care of the numerous medical bills from her surgery and hospital stay as well as future physical therapy that will be needed. Any and all contributions are so greatly appreciated and will help relieve some of the financial burden and stress at this time. I will be sure to keep everyone updated with news and progress.
