Rosemary Sumrell, 75 years old. Mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and great aunt. A smart, kind, loving woman who would give the shirt off her back to help anyone in need. She is an alumni employee of the WIC Program, where she worked for 26 years before retiring to move to Georgia to take care of her mother with dementia. Her mother has since passed on, and mom stayed in Georgia.

She was living with her goddaughter in October of 2022, and suddenly, she passed away during COVID. Once her goddaughter passed away, mom moved to an extended stay hotel. Because of the stress from the move, she ended up having a mini-stroke. She was hospitalized for weeks until she was able to recover. Once she recovered, she moved in with my aunt, who is a nurse. Mom was well on the way to recovery when, in March of 2022, she had a series of mini-strokes. She was hospitalized once again, recovered, and was doing well, but then I got a call in October. Mom had a hernia and blockage and had to have emergency surgery to repair and remove the blockage. The surgery went well, and mom is recovering again.

This time, during her recovery, I have had to come to Georgia to take care of her. I had to leave my career and music behind in Chicago to come try and see if we can get her strong again. The hospital bills are adding up, and with me being here, it's hard for me to make money and help her. So, I started this fund to try and help with her recovery and medical costs.
