UPDATE: Due to the Kaiser Strikes (which I support 100%!), my surgery has been postponed until January 13th.
On that day, I will be undergoing a joyful gender affirming surgical procedure! While I am very excited at the prospect of feeling more at home in my body, I am also feeling the weight of the financial burden that comes with this type of procedure.
According to the surgeon, recovery time is usually 2-6 weeks. But since my job as a Manufacturing Technician is pretty physical with some heavy lifting, bending over, reaching, etc., the surgeon said I should plan for a six week recovery.
While it doesn't necessarily mean I can't work at all (beyond the first 2 weeks), I will need to be put on modified duty/ possibly temporary part-time status for an estimated 4 weeks.
That said, in addition to needing help with out of pocket procedure costs, I'm asking for financial support for basic necessities like food, rent, utilities, phone, transportation, etc. Literally every dollar counts, so please don't feel like what you can offer isn't enough.
For example: $15 covers monthly audio subscription (music heals y'all!), $30 covers a round trip Lyft to the grocery store, $45 covers one month of cell phone, $60 covers groceries for a week, $250 covers a week of rent...
Please also, don't hesitate to reach out and offer friend hangs, help around the house, meal prep, rides to post-op appointments, etc. I will definitely have cabin fever after the first week, so even just showing up to walk around the block or sit outside and talk will be very much appreciated! My partner will still be working full time during the first two weeks of my recovery, so I will also need peeps to check on me during that time. I started a meal train sign up sheet, so if you wanna hop on board please email me: [email redacted]
Anyway, that's all for now. Thanks for reading, and please don't forget to share this among your networks. The more shares, the better chance I have of reaching my goal!
Love,
~Rosco
