Rosalia
Rosalia is a beloved sister, partner, aunt and nanny who has provided loving care to many young children. She is selfless, caring, thoughtful, and through her work she has not only supported her family but also provided a nurturing learning environment for many children.
What Happened
Rosalia was walking home from the playground and pushing a child in a stroller when she was brutally struck by a vehicle when crossing the street at a marked crosswalk. She heroically pushed the stroller out of the way and fortunately the child suffered no injuries. While attempting to get up and ensure that the child was safe after the initial impact, she was then run over by the vehicle and trapped underneath. She suffered a broken arm, multiple rib fractures, abdominal injuries and pelvic fractures. Despite her life-threatening injuries, her main concern throughout the entire ordeal was the wellbeing of the child that she had pushed to safety. She has now gone through multiple emergency surgeries and has been receiving excellent care from her entire team at VGH. Unfortunately, Rosalia still has a very long road ahead of her with months of bedrest and another several months of rehabilitation.
How will funds be used?
Despite the horrific nature of the collision, ICBC's "no fault" policy does not allow Rosalia to seek damages from the at fault driver. She will have a prolonged recovery and may need additional medical treatments, physiotherapy, counselling, income replacement and support beyond what is offered by ICBC. Funds will be used to support Rosalia's recovery.
