Support Rosa Chavez's Fight Against Cancer

Unfortunately it has been determined that Rosa is chemo resistant and is opting out of pursuing more aggressive treatments.

The choice to forgo further treatments was a tough one but ultimately she has decided to spend out her remaining time on earth at home with family, instead of in a hospital.

All donations will be used to cover any end of life costs.

Our dear friend, mother, wife, and grandmother, Rosa Chavez needs your help.

Many of you probably know her as a sweet, welcoming, and loving mother or mother-in-law of a friend, a coworker you can depend on, or a smiling face in the community.

For months, Rosa had not been feeling her best. It wasn’t until weeks after her first symptoms presented themselves that we really knew something wasn’t right.

In the weeks leading to her diagnosis, Rosa was complaining of headaches, weakness, and an unshakable fatigue. It was not long after those symptoms began that they were accompanied by an insatiable thirst, anxiety, confusion, and severe weakness on her left side.

Unfortunately, this only led to numerous tests at multiple hospitals which only gave more questions than answers all while her health was deteriorating.

Just days after celebrating Mother’s Day with her family, she awoke in the night to complete loss of mobility to her left side which we believed to be a stroke. Her husband Silvestre rushed her to the hospital once again. Tests showed a brain bleed which they monitored. Days later she was transferred from Silverdale to Saint Joseph’s in Tacoma where they ran more scans and finally found the culprit. They found that she not only had a brain bleed but multiple brain tumors and swelling. Those findings were proceeded with a biopsy on one of the brain masses, more scans, a lumbar puncture, and bone marrow biopsy.

The results determined that Rosa has Diffuse Large B-Cell Non-Hodgkins, Primary CNS Lymphoma (a rare type of lymphoma) along with a pituitary carcinoma. She was immediately started on an aggressive chemotherapy regimen biweekly, along with monthly infusions, weekly labs, and many medications and supplements.

Though her stage of cancer has been deemed curable, it will be a long road to recovery.

Treatments and PT have been and will be at multiple locations for the foreseeable future.

Rosa had been saving her PTO to take her first and much needed vacation with her husband but has had to use the PTO while all of this has kept her out of work.

We created this account to provide help towards medical expenses that are related to Rosa’s care and to help provide some financial relief to her husband, Silvestre, who has been the primary caregiver during this challenging time.

Nuestra querida madre, esposa, abuela y amiga Rosa Chávez necesita tu ayuda. Muchos de ustedes la conocen como la madre o suegra dulce y amorosa, una compañera de trabajo en la que pueden confiar o una cara sonriente en la comunidad. 

   Hacía meses que Rosa no se sentía mejor. No fue hasta semanas después de que se presentaran sus primeros síntomas que realmente supimos que algo no estaba bien. 

 

 En las semanas previas a su diagnóstico, Rosa se quejaba de dolores de cabeza, debilidad y una fatiga inquebrantable. No mucho después de que comenzaron esos síntomas, fueron acompañados de una sed insaciable, ansiedad, confusión y debilidad severa en su lado izquierdo.   

   Desafortunadamente, esto solo condujo a numerosas pruebas en múltiples hospitales que solo dieron más preguntas que respuestas mientras su salud se deterioraba. 

  Apenas unos días después de celebrar el Día de la Madre con su familia, se despertó por la noche con una pérdida total de movilidad en su lado izquierdo, lo que creímos que se debía a un derrame cerebral. Su esposo Silvestre la llevó nuevamente al hospital. Las pruebas mostraron una hemorragia cerebral que monitorearon. Días después fue trasladada de un hospital en Silverdale a el hospital Saint Joseph's en Tacoma, donde realizaron más exploraciones y finalmente encontraron al culpable. Descubrieron que no solo tenía una hemorragia cerebral, sino también múltiples tumores hinchados en el cerebro. Esos hallazgos se procedieron con una biopsia de una de las masas cerebrales, más exploraciones, una punción lumbar y una biopsia de médula ósea. Los resultados determinaron que Rosa tiene linfoma primario difuso del sistema nervioso central no Hodgkins de células B grandes (un tipo raro de linfoma) junto con un carcinoma pituitario. Inmediatamente comenzó con un régimen agresivo de quimioterapia quincenal, junto con infusiones mensuales, análisis de laboratorio semanales y muchos medicamentos y suplementos. Aunque se considera que su cáncer es curable, el camino hacia la recuperación será largo. Los tratamientos y la fisioterapia se han realizado y se realizarán en múltiples ubicaciones en el futuro previsible. Rosa había estado ahorrando sus días de tiempo libre pagado para tomar sus primeras y muy necesarias vacaciones con su esposo, pero tuvo que usar ese tiempo mientras todo esto la mantenía sin trabajo.
