Hi everybody!
My name is Rory Boyd, and I just turned one month old! Last week I was diagnosed with Cholestasis of the Newborn, which means for some reason my liver isn’t getting rid of bile efficiently. Right now it’s just making me look a little yellow, but we have to figure out what’s causing this to happen so we know how to treat and manage it. Having too much bile in your liver can lead to liver damage and eventually liver failure and transplant.
My mom, dad, and big brothers will be taking me back a forth a lot to Boston Children’s Hospital for the next few months (maybe longer), and we’ll have a bit more unexpected medical expenses such as large copays for liver disease medications, and only partially covered procedures until my doctors can solve this mystery and help us treat it!
If you can help us out in any way, it’d be a little less stressful for mom and dad. Our first trip back to BCH will be next week for my next round of testing! I will keep you posted! Thanks everyone!
Love,
Rory Boyd (and Liam, Finn, Alaina & Donnie)
