Hi, my name is Jessica, and my cat Rory was recently diagnosed with Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). This disease used to be a death sentence but this isn’t the case anymore.
He is only 3 years old and has so much more life to live. He is sweet, energetic, and loving. He loves every cat, dog, and person he meets and he just does not deserve what he’s gone through.
He most likely has a neurotic dry form of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP), along with potentially fighting something else unknown. FIP is extremely aggressive and is a near-guaranteed death without proper treatment. He was fighting a middle ear infection and after surgery the symptoms of FIP appeared. It is likely that the stress of surgery allowed the disease to take over. He went from his normal sweet self to unable to see and walk properly. The cognitive decline is very clear. He has suffered from chronic ear infections which have led to three very expensive surgeries. The total of his vet bills to date is roughly around $5,000. This total does not account for what it is going to cost to treat his FIP.
His current symptoms have been progressively worsening by the day. He has neurotic symptoms such as wobbling, imbalance, and loss of vision,
FIP is incredibly aggressive and I don’t think I have much time as he is deteriorating quickly; however, the only known cure for his condition is an experimental drug known as GS-441524. It is not currently approved for use within the US by the FDA. However, it is readily used in other countries such as the UK. It is reportedly incredibly successful, with improvements made within days of administration and cure rates of 90%.
The treatment is costly and long-term, and initially we estimated that the cost would be around $2,000 but unfortunately Rory contracted a severe ear infection and began to regress. This lead to several trips to the vet and many expensive antibiotics and ear drops. We also had to increase his GS dosage and switch to pills which has lead to a significant increase in the cost of treatment.
We also just found out that Rory is going to need a surgery called a complete ear canal ablation. This is the only way to stop his chronic ear infections as we have exhausted every other option. This surgery is incredibly expensive and we were quoted $6,000. This changes everything as we simply cannot afford this surgery on our own.
Thankfully, I do not have to pay for his treatment in full immediately as I am currently paying per pack of pills. However, there are only 30 pills per package and Rory requires 4 pills a day. These pills are highly expensive and we still have a month left in his treatment. He also requires blood work at least every four weeks for monitoring, and then after his 84 days of treatment is up, he must be observed for another 84 days.
This all totals up fast.
I am a grad student pursing a masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I want to be able to use this degree to help people and I don’t want this to be held back by the high cost of Rory’s treatment and I definitely don’t want to lose him. Any donation will help me afford his medication throughout his treatment. Every dollar helps.
Please help me save his life. I would greatly appreciate any contributions or shares. Thank you so much for your time.
