#RallyForRory: Fighting Brain Cancer Together
Donation protected
Rory Gaffney, a Myrtle Beach local, turned 14 this week, but instead of celebrating like most teens, he's facing the fight of his life. Rory was recently diagnosed with High-Grade Glioblastoma (HGG), an aggressive form of brain cancer. After several weeks and multiple surgeries at MUSC Children's Hospital in Charleston, Rory is now undergoing chemo and radiation at St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, TN.
By his side every step of the way are his devoted parents, Amy and Gary, and his twin brother Ian, who is not only Rory’s sibling, but his best friend and constant companion. Watching Rory go through this has been difficult for Ian, who is struggling to understand and cope with the sudden shift in their world.
Amy, a devoted RN, is on leave from work to care for Rory, and though Gary is able to work some remotely, it's not his full time case load. As Amy and Gary pour every ounce of their energy into caring for Rory and supporting Ian emotionally, the financial toll of this fight is quickly growing. St. Jude covers all medical treatment and their temporary housing in Memphis, (what a blessing!), but their family is still juggling daily finances - food, transportation, (either a rental or Uber), day to day expenses while being so far from home, along with the everyday bills here at home.
Your support—through donations, prayers, or simply sharing this fundraiser—means everything. It helps ensure Rory gets the best care possible, allows Amy and Gary to stay by his side, and provides comfort and stability for Ian. This journey is hard and will be long, no family should walk it alone.
