Support Rory Placito's NICU Journey
Donation protected
Hello, we are the friends and family of Nicole and Sean Placito who welcomed an adorable little baby boy, Rory Placito into the world on August 29, 2024.
We're raising funds to help the Placito family who have been inundated with a colossal amount of medical debt as a result of Rory needing to be in the NICU since the day he was born.
We're going to share a brief history of the ordeal little Rory and his family have been experiencing ever since his birth.
At the 36 week checkup, the mother, Nicole, had a sonogram where it was discovered that the baby was measuring very small. She learned that the placenta had reverse flow (an abnormal flow in the umbilical arteries that can be fatal) and was told that she needed to go to the hospital immediately.
Upon arrival at the hospital, Nicole was told she would have to have a C-Section because they were losing the heartbeat of the baby -- there was no time to waste.
Rory was born premature at 3lbs, 9oz. on August 29th.
He needed breathing support and remained in the NICU where he then unfortunately developed an infection in his intestines called Necrotizing Enterocolitis.
Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC) is another life threatening condition where inflammation in the intestines leads to a bacterial infection. Rory stayed on antibiotics for 10 days, fought off the infection and was eventually reintroduced to food.
But, each time he ate, the food would come right back up; he could not keep anything down.
The incredible staff at the hospital would try again a few days later, but attempts were unsuccessful.
Scan after scan showed nothing abnormal except a distended stomach.
After several weeks of no progress it was decided that Rory would need exploratory surgery.
Medical staff found a stricture in his intestines from having NEC and they ended up removing part of his colon. After coming out of surgery he needed to remain sedated and intubated for a week because his body was not strong enough to breathe on his own.
Eventually all the tubes that had been helping Rory breathe and eat were removed and feedings started again.
The feedings were going well for a couple weeks until Rory started experiencing "dumping syndrome" which is where the body will not absorb nutrients. The food he tried to eat went right into the ostomy bag and he began vomiting again. A replogle tube was reinserted and the family anxiously awaits further developments.
It has been months, and with no end in sight, the bills coming in the mail are an ever looming source of stress on a family already dealing with daily trips back and forth to the NICU.
The Placito family wants Rory to come home safely and the NICU will give him the best shot at that. He has already shown that he is a little fighter and his parents are even moreso, but right now they need our help.
All donations from this fundraiser will go toward helping the Placito family tackle the ever increasing mountain of medical debt they are accumulating as Rory gets the expert care he so desperately needs.
If you aren't able to donate at this time, please pass this along to your friends and families.
Any bit of relief for the Placito family will help tremendously as they continue to support their strong little son.
