Active Arts: a Roosevelt Student Project of Protest and Healing

On January 7th 2026, hours after the murder of Renee Good by ICE agents, ICE agents and US Border Patrol (including Greg Bovino) showed up at Roosevelt high school, terrorizing the student body at dismissal, pepper spraying faculty and staff, and detaining one beloved staff member.

Now Roosevelt students are working with local artists Candida Gonzalez and Bayou Bay to create a permanent art installation for their school building that tells the story of what happened, how students have led the way on resisting ICE in their school, and inspiring and motivating future students about their role in fighting back against repression and for justice and safety for all students and neighbors.

We are raising $10,000 for materials and to compensate these community artists and educators with deep ties to Roosevelt to facilitate this powerful process. This piece will join the robust and powerful street art around Minneapolis and at Roosevelt that uplifts, encourages, inspires, and propels each next generation of freedom fighters.
