Support Ron's Journey with Adenocarcinoma

Hello. My name is Rebecca Morgan and I'm raising money for the care of my amazing father - Ron Morgan.

My dad is a loving father to me and a loving husband to my mom. He has served the community in many ways, from serving his country in the Navy during a very dangerous time (Vietnam - stateside despite him volunteering for deployment), to coaching a great many children in Little League baseball, to participating in activities with the Patriot Guard, and more. He has touched a great many lives during his time with us, and I could not be more proud of him. We love him so very much!

A few weeks ago, we took my dad to the ER because he had been experiencing abdominal/pelvic pain. He had a fall and some other issues, but the pain was not clearing with time, so his doctor told us to go ahead and take him in. It's a good thing that they did. During a routine CT scan to rule out a fracture, a lesion was found in his lung. During the following abdominal CT, other lesions were found, including one in his liver. He had biopsies and was eventually diagnosed with an aggressive form of adenocarcinoma during his follow-up to the liver biopsy with his oncologist.

My dad was in the hospital for 12 days. After that, he went to a skilled nursing center to go through rehab so that he might be able to get strong enough to go home. His time there started on July 24th. Unfortunately, Medicare will only cover 20 days at 100%, and his time of coverage is ending because of lack of progress. His 20 days end on Wednesday.

My dad has a PET scan on the 15th, and if there is treatment available, he could begin it as early as his follow-up on the 22nd of this month.

We have tried everything from Medicaid, which he doesn't qualify for, to looking into private programs, to trying to get him VA benefits. We have yet to find any assistance that even scrapes the surface of the cost that my parents will incur just to provide him basic necessities.

My dad can't move himself, requiring assistance for all aspects of life. Their bed is king-sized and too big for a two-person method of transferring and shifting him for care. He is in need of a hospital bed and wheelchair at the very least. There are also a few other items of medical equipment that would make his life and my mom's a little less difficult. We also need to pay for at least four more days at the skilled nursing center since my mom has surgery on the 12th and will not be able to care for him for at least a week.

I know that money is tight for everyone right now and I would not ask for help if I had any other options. If you can't donate, you can help by sharing this story and by saying a prayer for my family.

Thank you so much for reading this.
