UPDATE::: Dad currently has an infection in the hardware from his surgery. He will have a longer stay. They need all the help they can get! He’s gonna be in the hospital later! Anything helps!
he is gonna have to go through another procedure to fix the hardware or hopefully something easier. Pray also because the poor guy just got through 3-4 months of healing and having to start again. We are praying it’s gonna be an easier outcome for him than they are anticipating!
Hello everyone,
my name is Brittany Hockenberry for those that don’t know me. I’m opening a go fund me up on behalf of my mom and dad, Ron & Rachel Hoyman. My dad had a major back fusion, this being his 3rd one the End of August. My dad starting having unbearable pain, he couldn’t walk and the narrowing of his previous surgery wasn’t stable, which landed him in the ER with spinal cored compression and in so much pain and agony we rushed him to Presby after Somerset hospital just kept putting him on steroid shots and pain meds and sending him home. My mom and I decided to get him to Presby a seen asap. He went down on the Saturday at the end of the month, and the next Sunday morning after they were operating already. He was getting around and ok for the most part even in the healing state after the surgery but dad was recently experiencing bad pain in the leg again with nerve damage that was said to be fixed. He went in on that’s sat and operation on the Sunday after, due to the severity of his problems. They were to do a MRI on him with contrast and only did it without so this never showed infection or anything at this point, yet and they sent him home. Then shortly after this, he again started having the pains but worse and worse. Loss feeling and couldn’t walk on his right leg again. He started shivering, high fevers of almost 103. At this point mom and I suspected an infection, and called the on call doctor who advised us to get him to back to Presby again asap. He has spinal cord fluid leaking is what we were told at this point after doing a STAT mri, blood cultures and CT they found the infection. They started him on antibiotics. While the fever got somewhat better, he still isn’t ok. And very sick. After blood cultures coming back, CT scans and MRI’s, they found an infection in his back and we are told that the infection is in his blood also. Being septic. Dad surgery from August was $325,000 not including the hospital bills, all the tests and the ambulance that he had to recently just take to Presby here now because he couldn’t handle my suv seats or lay on his back. So we had to go back with him now upon them now saying he’s got a really bad infection in his back and blood. They did a spinal tap this morning to get fluid out and to test this fluid yet. He’s going to be in the hospital until he’s cleared up for sure. With this being sad, moms missing work to help my dad and can’t afford to miss work, neither can my husband and I too much either. Dads gonna have crazy amounts of bills coming his way for hospital stays, surgeries, meds, the surgery costs, food, gas for whatever vehicle we take, toll costs, and parking garage tickets, in which we are down there almost every night. As right now I’d like to get them help with their bills, food, parking garage tickets toll costs and work missed to help them get through this all. Dads going to be in there for a little bit until they make sure everything is cleared up. If anyone can help this amazing couple get what they need that would be awesome. They are always giving back to others, so it’s only our job to take care of them. We still don’t know what for sure infection is in his blood yet and how he got all this but, they are testing the spinal cord fluid in his back so they know how they have to treat this asap. They will greatly appreciate who ever can help and give back. And as for me I appreciate everyone’s time and whose willing to help. Our family never likes creating these but what dads going through right now he desperately needs our community behind him. Money only goes so far.
thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Please pray that the doctors know what to do to get him fixed up and feeling better! He has a long recovery ahead of him.
