Ron Simmons is known to many as the friendly cashier at Safeway, always greeting customers with a smile. Recently, Ron suffered a severe heart failure episode and is now on full life support at Providence Hospital in Portland. After his heart device shocked him multiple times, he was rushed to the hospital, received CPR twice, and was stabilized just enough to be airlifted for advanced care. His wife, Denise, has been by his side every step of the way, traveling back and forth from their home to Portland while also caring for their special needs daughter.


This sudden medical crisis has placed an enormous emotional and financial strain on their family. Denise works full-time as a caregiver for their daughter, and with Ron unable to work, they are facing a loss of income and mounting travel expenses. The uncertainty of Ron’s recovery means Denise must continue to make these trips, all while trying to keep their family together and support Ron through his treatment and recovery.


Denise and Ron have always been there for their community, and now they need a little help in return. They have no savings to fall back on and are facing expenses they never could have planned for.
