Support Romeo's Fight for Recovery

Help Romeo's journey to recovery! Hello everyone, Romeo had a mast cell tumor that I had scheduled for removal in early August. Last Monday it started to go downhill very quickly. The tumor doubled in size almost overnight and started to burst open. Because of the rapid growth and swelling, the best option was to amputate his leg to ensure all of the tumor and cancerous cells were removed. During surgery there were complications, but thankfully they were able to get him stabilized. Since he's been out of surgery, there have been complications with his blood count, and is reading anemic. The doctors are not sure why he is anemic, but it is slowing his blood regeneration. He is eating and drinking, going to the bathroom and acting like his normal self (for the most part) which is such a relief to witness after seeing his condition on Wednesday night. He has been fighting ever since he had this surgery and continues to get stronger each day! He goes for more blood work on Wednesday to see if his body is regenerating the blood cells on its own, like it should be. If his blood count has not gone up (or is reading lower that it was yesterday) the next step would be more tests to figure out what is really going on.

For those of you who know Romeo, you know how sweet and loving he is! Everyone who meets him LOVES him! For those of you who know me, know that Romeo has gotten me through the hardest and darkest times in my life. I made the decision to move forward with the amputation based off of the doctor's expertise, and his expert advice on his quality of life afterwards.
The complications he's had were not expected at all and it has been quite a rollercoaster of emotions this past week not to mention the vet bills are quickly adding up. This has ended up being way more than I anticipated, cost wise, but I feel like he is so close to being out of the woods! If his bloodwork on Wednesday comes back showing his blood count has not started to go up, the next step would be to take him back to the hospital for more testing. I don't know how much those tests will cost to continue down this road to figuring out what's going on with his blood.

Every dollar helps us get answers and ultimately restore Romeo's health. Your contribution, no matter the size, will bring us closer to seeing him get back to his normal energetic, tail-wagging, big lump of love self again. If you're unable to contribute financially, sharing this post with friends, family, or pet lovers to get the word out there is also a HUGE help! And of course, we will take all the prayers we can get! <3

I will share updates on his recovery and bloodwork as I know more. Thank you for reading Romeo's story and considering supporting his journey back to health. Your support MEANS THE WORLD to me!

With Gratitude,
Kara <3
