My name is Dawn and my husband Romell, aka DJ Rome. Our lives were changed dramatically October 16, 2025. We went to our local hospital October 16, 2025 for Romell to have a heart cath and during the heart cath he suffered from a stroke that resulted in an aortic dissection. The stroke hit the left and right side of his brain. Our hospital had to care flight him to a neighboring hospital an hour and a half from our home for immediate surgery. During his recovery from the major heart surgery, fluids started to build back up in his body, and on October 25th, Romell had a devastating turn of events. We almost lost him, but God said it was not his time. Romell had to go back into surgery that day to place the drainage tubes back in. Romell was once again placed back on a ventilator. Romell has been going through so much for the last month and still has a very long road ahead of him.

Romell is a God-fearing man, a very loving man who is family-oriented and very driven in what he sets his mind to doing. He does not know a stranger, very friendly to all who are blessed to cross his path. The stroke caused him to lose his ability to speak and move his right side. With God's grace and an outpouring of prayers, his speech has recovered, and he is starting to build strength in his right side. His left side works beautifully. His right hand is his dominant hand. We are praying hard for a 100% recovery for Romell.

We have been dealing with a kidney doctor since 2008 due to severe hypertension. Romell takes his blood pressure medicine as he is supposed to, but his blood pressure was very hard to maintain at the beginning. The hypertension has caused significant damage to his kidneys, and he will be in need of a kidney transplant later. We are still working with doctors to continue the process of being placed on the kidney transplant list. We still serve a mighty God, and I am praying that God heals his body.

Romell is a father of 6 children and a wonderful pawpaw to 8 grandchildren. With lots of therapy, Romell will get back to being the husband, father, and grandfather that we all love and know him to be. Romell works full-time but is also a DJ. Romell is a wonderful provider for his family, helping others when he is able as well.

Due to these unforeseen circumstances, we now face major financial hardships and will accrue many hospital bills. We all know that insurance only covers so much. We understand that times are hard for everyone right now, but we just need some extra help from those that are able to help us in this journey. Romell is going to need additional medical equipment in our home that will aid us in his day-to-day activities. Upon his return home, we will have to drive back and forth to his rehab facility for additional rehab multiple times a week. His rehabilitation center is also an hour and a half from home. That is going to add up quickly financially. We just want to be able to maintain our home and manage our bills the best that we can and are not afraid to ask for help. No amount is too little; every penny helps with the ability to cover our bills, gas, food, etc. We appreciate all of those who have reached out to me during this time and all of those who have helped me while my husband has been going through this. This is my first week back home to handle home to get it ready for him to come home. I will be driving back and forth to be with my husband. I will be going through training with the rehabilitation center to teach me how to properly assist my husband. Funds collected will go toward our monthly expenses (due to his loss of income) gas (travel back and forth to his rehab upon release) and his medical bills.
