Support Roman's Urgent Heart Transplant Journey
Donation protected
Roman, Anthony and Courtney Reid’s oldest son, was admitted to the ICU on July 26th, Roman’s 2nd birthday. He was admitted for heart failure, which was previously undiagnosed, and has left him in urgent need of a heart transplant.
He has been in an intensive care unit on life support for 2 months. He has had two open heart surgeries: one to install a pacemaker, in which Roman experienced sudden cardiac arrest, resulting in him being placed on ECMO (Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation), which was life support for his heart and lungs. He eventually had another procedure to move him from ECMO to a biventricular assist device (BiVAD). The BiVAD supports both sides of his heart, which is not capable of doing so on its own, until the transplant takes place.
Roman remains in intensive care until he stabilizes. He is battling fever spikes, kidney and lung issues, possible infection, and has been intubated for over a month. Once he stabilizes, he will reside on the hospital’s residence floor until a heart match is found and he receives a donor heart. They have been told this waiting period could be anywhere from 4-12 months.
While Anthony and Courtney have barely left Roman's side, their family and friends have been able to assist with their other son when able; however, costs are mounting and will undoubtedly greatly surpass what insurance will cover. They have need for reliable transportation, as this will be used for the daily commute to the hospital. Financial support would also help pay for medical bills, mortgage, and miscellaneous expenses like baby necessities, food, gas, etc.
Courtney and Anthony have a Facebook group (Roman’s Updates) where they regularly give updates on how Roman is doing and how people can be praying for him. They are profoundly grateful for the prayers and support they’ve received.
