On Monday June 24th, 2024 our dad Roland “The Rock” Martinez was rushed to the emergency room with terrible head pains. He suffered a mild stroke, few seizures and was diagnosed with Bacterial Meningitis. The doctors had a long talk with our mom about possibly going on the ventilator to help him breathe and give him a chance of life. We all knew being on a ventilator was one thing he did not want. He is a kidney transplant recipient and covid survivor. With the help of the good Lord on our side and wonderful medical team we did and he was on the ventilator for 7 days. On the 7th day he opened his eyes and even told my mom he loved her! The Bacterial Meningitis was located in his spine then moved to his whole brain during the stroke, which has now affected his hearing, speech, memory and entire body mobility. He is starting aggressive therapy today 7/9/2024. Insurance is only paying a portion of hospital bills. Since this was an unforeseen circumstance, funds are very limited. Playing drums and singing is Roland’s passion. But it also brought home extra funds. With him unable to work and play now he is stressed over their financial status while in the hospital. We tell him to rest and focus on getting back to health. Our mom is reassuring him it will be okay. However, the reality of it all is frightening and to say the least overwhelming for her as she deals with health issues of her own which is now put to the back burner to focus on her love, our dad. She has moved mountains in his care at the hospital since day one he has been there till today. During his ICU stay she was told she could not stay and what a heart break, but she always got there super early to be with him.
Our dad has no memory of the pain or being taken or in the hospital. His memory is slowly coming back and so is his speech.
Our dad and mom, Roland and Hortense have always gone above and beyond to help others even when they couldn’t. Now is the time we can help them! Prayers are always first but if you have the means and can help them take some financial burden it would be a blessing to them!
The Lord has been with our dad and us the whole way! The outpouring of love and prayers is just amazing!!! My dad and mom are truly blessed with some amazing friends and family! Some have been there everyday and taken our mom things she needs because if you know our mom she will go without if it means my dad or us have what we need first.
Thank You Jesus for our dad to continue to be here with us today and guide him on his journey back to health. Thank You to all their friends for your love and so much support! It means the world to them and us.
God bless every one that takes special time out of your day to pray for and us!
