Hi everyone,
Perhaps you have seen the news about a recent fire (Jan 20, 2026) in the Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh. It’s currently winter there, and hundreds of families (2000+ people) have lost their shelter and everything they own. Living in refugee camps without any job and with sole dependency on international aid, it will be incredibly difficult for families to reacquire some of the basic necessities that they have lost, such as cloth, bedding, and other essentials. Even though there are international organizations such as the Norwegian Refugee Council on the ground helping the affected victims, one of my friends' families shared with me that some of the most affected families are not getting the help they need. My friend's family, who are also affected, have offered to help distribute anything we send.
Organizations are helping build temporary tarp tents and other make-shift shelters. With that being said, I am trying to help about 20+ families and orphaned kids get clothes and bedding as they go through this incredibly devastating time.
Items I am thinking of and the associated cost:
- Plastic straw mats are often used for bedding here. One mat is about 500 BDT ($5)
- I am also thinking a shirt and a lungi for boys and the elderly (both would come to $5)
- And a shirt and taiñ (equivalent of lungi but for women), which is about $5 as well.
So, about $10 per person.
Assuming an average of 5 members per family, we are aiming for about 100 people.
So, about a $1000 would do it.
