Roger, a generous and loving husband, father, bonus dad, brother, uncle, and friend, was diagnosed with prostate cancer a few months ago. Known for his caring nature and hard-working spirit, Roger is quick to help others in need. He has been graciously supporting me in small and large ways during physical therapy, trauma therapy, and water therapy while recovering from my plane accident the past two years. In case you're wondering...no, the airline has not paid me a dime.
Unfortunately, these medical challenges including his recent diagnosis have struck at a difficult time, as Roger was laid off from the very job we moved to Texas for. The entire department Roger was in restructured without warning and 30% of the team was laid off. During which time, I too pivoted from professor to pastor and had no idea this health challenge would arise.
When Roger was first diagnosed, the urologist indicated his PSA level was manageable, and the plan was to explore treatment options such as chemo, radiation, or HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound). However, within just three weeks, we received the news that his PSA level had become intermediate and aggressive. Roger has decided to undergo surgery, which is scheduled for the middle of June, and we are prayerful and hopeful for a full recovery. We are thankful to God that Roger was able to secure a new job. He works full-time hours on a contract and is prayerful for better benefits in the future. Right now, we are relying on my benefits, some additional projects in the works, and the grace and provisions of our heavenly Father.
The financial burden of the portion of medical bills not covered by insurance, post-surgery care, and daily living expenses are overwhelming. Additionally, we need to replenish our income until Roger can return to work. We are reaching out to our community for support during this challenging time.
Ideally, 30 of our family/friends (whom are able) donating $500 or 15 of our family/friends donating $1000 would be a blessing. Yet, any amount you choose to contribute will help us cover these essential expenses and allow Roger to focus on his recovery without the added stress of financial strain. Thank you for considering supporting our family.
