Support Rodrigo’s Life-Saving Stem Cell Transplant Treatment and Recovery

We are raising funds to support Rodrigo Herrera Álvarez as he faces the most critical battle of his life. After years of medical uncertainty, failed treatments, and unimaginable physical and emotional hardship, Rodrigo now has one remaining opportunity for survival: a second, life-saving stem cell transplant scheduled for January 30. This fundraiser aims to help cover the overwhelming medical and living expenses that have accumulated during this long journey.
Rodrigo’s road to diagnosis was long and painful.

For years, he sought medical answers for severe skin allergies and other persistent symptoms. He consulted multiple doctors, received different diagnoses, and tried numerous treatments, yet nothing explained—or resolved—what was truly happening in his body. As time passed, his health continued to decline without clarity or relief.

Eventually, a hematology specialist identified the true cause: aplastic anemia, a rare and serious disease in which the bone marrow stops producing the blood cells necessary to sustain life. From that moment on, Rodrigo’s life—and our family’s—changed forever.

For the past two years, Rodrigo has lived almost day to day at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, enduring intensive treatments, constant medical monitoring, and regular platelet transfusions just to survive. While doctors searched for a compatible donor, he depended on weekly transfusions to stay alive.

With great hope, Rodrigo underwent a first bone marrow transplant. Tragically, it was not successful. His body did not respond as expected, and his platelet production never recovered. Since then, he has had to endure extremely aggressive treatments that have left his immune system severely compromised. He cannot be around others and is unable to live a normal life without putting himself at serious risk.

As a direct result of his condition, Rodrigo lost his job—one he had dedicated more than 15 years of his life to—because continuing to work would have endangered his health and life. This loss has left our family facing not only an ongoing medical crisis, but a devastating financial one as well.

Today, doctors have confirmed that the only viable option is a second procedure: a stem cell transplant, scheduled for January 30. This procedure represents a renewed chance at life, but it also comes with immense costs—specialized medications, prolonged treatments, extreme medical care, and basic living expenses that have continued to accumulate over time.

Rodrigo is the fourth of five siblings. He is known for his warmth, charisma, and entrepreneurial spirit, and for being an exceptional son, brother, uncle, husband, and friend. He is joyful, generous, and deeply faithful. Even in the midst of pain and uncertainty, he has never lost hope or gratitude.

Today, we come to you with humility. Any financial contribution—no matter the size—makes a meaningful difference in helping us navigate this journey. If you are unable to donate, sharing this story or keeping Rodrigo in your prayers is also a powerful act of love and support. Your prayers mean more to us than words can express.

Thank you for taking the time to read Rodrigo’s story, for standing with us, and for helping carry us through this incredibly difficult moment.

With deep gratitude,
The Herrera Álvarez Family
