My brother, Rodney Scales, is a father, grandfather, and lifelong handyman who built a life around helping others. He enjoyed fishing, especially with others. Whether he was fixing a neighbor’s leaky sink, patching a roof, or lending a listening ear, Rodney was always the first to step up—and never asked for anything in return.
But on the night of January 31st, everything changed.
While walking to the local store—something he’d done countless times—Rodney was viciously assaulted in an unprovoked attack. The injuries he suffered were catastrophic. He endured severe brain trauma and was rushed into emergency surgery.
Since then, Rodney has undergone four brain surgeries and has been in and out of the hospital, clinging to life. The damage was so extensive that he can no longer walk, speak, or care for himself. Doctors have told us he will never return to the life he once knew.
Rodney is now facing a future that will require full-time, long-term care. He’s not just fighting for his life—he’s fighting to maintain even a fraction of the independence he once had.
Our family is doing everything we can, but the financial burden is overwhelming. We’re raising money to help cover:
Medical expenses and hospital bills
Physical and occupational therapy
Long-term care and equipment
Ongoing rehabilitation efforts
Rodney didn’t deserve this. No one does. This senseless act of violence took away a father, a grandfather, and a hardworking man who lived simply and gave generously.
With your help, we can give him the support, dignity, and care he needs to face this incredibly difficult journey.
Every donation matters. Even if you can’t give, sharing this story could help us reach someone who can.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with Rodney and our family.
