Support Rod Caborn's Fight with ALS
Donation protected
Rod Caborn needs our help. In the summer of 2024 he received a devastating diagnosis of ALS. Some of you may only know of this as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
So many in our community have been touched by Rod. He has been a tireless fundraiser for numerous local nonprofit organizations, serving as an entertaining and remarkably skillful emcee and auctioneer for the past 33 Years. He has enthusiastically raised millions of dollars for a myriad of charitable organizations and schools in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties, and beyond.
Among his many community affiliations and pursuits, for the last 20 years, Rod has been, and continues to be, a leader with the Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary, serving as its president in 2012-13. During his years as a Rotarian, Rod unleashed his passion for making the world a better place in so many ways, not the least of which by volunteering his unequaled skills as an emcee and fundraiser. Among his many contributions has been creating and leading Rotary events, supercharging them to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charitable causes in our local community and for Rotary projects around the world. See the list below*.
Rod is going to need a tremendous amount of assistance as he navigates this path in coping with this diagnosis.
Here are the 4 main things for which he and his devoted family will need financial assistance in the coming months:
- An electric trike so he can still remain mobile for as long as possible: $9,500
- A Fully equipped van adapted for his disability: $48k
- An extensive accessibility remodel on his house to make it possible for him to live at home: $98k
- Funding for ongoing in-home healthcare: $?
So, as his dear friends and advocates, we are looking back to our community, and the folks involved in the non-profits who have been served so well and lovingly by Rod, and we’re asking you to contribute what you can to help him in this journey. We would also love for you to share this on all your social networks so we reach as many people as we can. This is a beautiful way to thank Rod and acknowledge the positive impact he’s had in making our little part of Central California the special place it is.
Please join us in helping Rod through these seriously challenging times,
Jon Winston and Amie Forest
