We have all been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in one way or another. Most of us either work for one or know someone with a small business that has struggled to survive this past year while navigating the challenges of uncharted government mandates and adapting to customers’ willingness and ability to purchase their goods or services. Fortunately most businesses were able to weather the storm or adapt and with the help of some government programs will make it through this ordeal. Some, like my good friend Chris at Rocky Mountain Holiday Tours (RMHT) in Fort Collins, Colorado, have not been as fortunate and could really use some extra help to save their businesses.
RMHT is a travel agency based in Fort Collins, Colorado that specializes in group travel packages for primarily international travelers that want to see the West. The RMHT team plans dream vacations for their foreign clientele to visit national parks, monuments, ranches, lakes and other sought after destinations throughout the Rocky Mountain Region.
COVID-19 has been hard on everyone in the travel industry but particularly those focused on international travel. For more than a year now RMHT has lost more than 90% of its typical business. Not only has the income stopped but they actually had to refund clients that had booked vacations in 2020 and now again in 2021. RMHT tried to pivot and offer customized packages for domestic travelers to help get them by until international travel opens back up but that has proven to be a very difficult transition and has not panned out.
RMHT is confident that as soon as international travel opens back up their established client base will return and they will eventually be able to get back to normal. Until then, they have been doing everything they can to keep the company afloat and retain as many employees as possible. If international travel doesn’t open up in the summer of 2021, the reality is that RMHT may not make it to 2022 without a little help.
Most of us have gone out of our way to support local small businesses like restaurants, bars, gyms, etc. but there haven’t been many opportunities to help businesses like RMHT. We are hoping that this will reach a number of people or businesses that have been more fortunate throughout the pandemic and have the ability to donate. We understand this is not the right time for everyone to lend a hand financially so please think about someone you may know that might be in a position to donate and maybe forward this on to them.
Thank you.
