In 2015, Rob went to the doctors with a small persistent sore on his leg and what he believed was a stubborn cold. After a routine blood test, Rob was rushed to the Emergency Department at the Alfred Hospital. 

It's then Rob was first diagnosed with Leukaemia (Acute Myeloid Leukaemia). Rob underwent immediate, severe chemotherapy.  It came at a time where Robs daughter-in-law was about to give birth to his first grandchild, robbing him of a once in a lifetime milestone.  After months of constant battling, Rob was given the good news that his fight had prevailed and he was discharged to return home. 

Not long after, in March of 2017, after a regular follow up blood test, Rob was again rushed to the Alfred. It came as a complete shock to not only his family but also to Rob who was feeling well, enjoying watching his grandson grow and his other son prepare for his upcoming wedding. Having used an extensive amount of sick leave and every other leave possible in his previous treatment Rob was forced to leave his job and pass a huge financial burden onto his wife. This time the treatment would be much more severe, requiring his brother to fly over from Ireland for a bone marrow transplant. Due to the required ongoing treatment Rob will now miss another major milestone, his eldest son’s wedding. 

Rob now has a long battle in front of him. The chemo is intense and the side effects almost unbearable but with so much to live for and the strong support from his selfless, loving wife, Lyn and his sons we pray that Rob will make a full recovery.
