Hello, I am starting a GoFundMe for my 38-year-old son. My son, Rob, was involved in a motorcycle accident almost 5 years ago. The accident left him disabled. He suffered severe injuries to his pelvis, both legs, wrist, and so on. They repaired his pelvis and right leg with a lot of hardware (screws, rods, etc.).
He eventually healed enough to go back to work. It was out of desperation, not because he was fully healed. He worked enough to make a living and provide for his needs.
During this time, his leg became harder to walk on. The hardware started falling apart, leaving him in immense pain, but he continued to do what he had to do to provide, and another year passed.
This year, the hardware became infected. Still, at this time, he chose to do antibiotics outpatient so he could continue to provide for himself and his daughter. He did this over the course of almost a full year on antibiotics off and on.
Last month, his fear became a reality. He had acquired a bone infection in his right leg. At this time, he was moved from Key West Medical to HCA in Miami. The first surgery, they removed all the infected hardware. The next surgery, they removed as much infection as possible. The doctor then approached him and strongly recommended that he have his right leg amputated, as saving the leg just was not possible this time.
So in October, he had his right leg amputated. He is still not working and is now back in the hospital with another bone infection. He has amazing friends and family that have helped financially as much as we could. His daughter also took on a part-time job to help as much as she could; she's 14.
I never thought we would have to reach out. Recovery will be a lot longer than anticipated and financial help is needed to keep things moving until he can get his prosthetic.
I will be donating any income from my PoshMark sales. I will also donate all monies from my art sales. All art will be online and available this week.
Thank you in advance for any donations. It is deeply appreciated by our entire family.
