Rob (aka Parps) is 45, a loving husband to Andrea, and an absolute legend of a Papá to Thomas, 9, and Matilda, 7. He is a proud Māori and long time Cronulla local, usually found having an early morning surf, spending time on the beach with his family, or cruising around The Shire in his "Show Me Your Tints" work ute. (The ute is so loud we're pretty sure half the neighbourhood hears him coming long before they see him!).
On July 1st, Rob started his day with just a headache before collapsing at work. An MRI confirmed the devastating news of a brain mass needing urgent investigation. After two brain surgeries in just one week, to remove the mass, the results came back with the worst news: a Grade 4 Astrocytoma, an aggressive brain cancer. It is crushing news for a young family.
Rob has Lynch Syndrome. This is a genetic condition that causes a significantly higher risk of developing cancers than the average person. But Rob is a fighter. He already beat bowel cancer 7 years ago when his youngest child was just weeks old, and he is DETERMINED to stay positive and do it all again.
Rob now faces a bumpy road ahead. While he recovers from surgery, his doctors are mapping out the exact path forward, with treatment expected to begin in about four weeks.
Being self employed and the main income earner, without any income insurance, the family is facing overwhelming uncertainty. Furthermore, due to the risk of seizures, surgeons have advised that Rob cannot be left alone. This means Andrea will also be unable to work so she can be by his side as his full-time carer.
Rob and Andrea are always the ones who quietly help everyone else, never expecting anything in return. Now, they are in the unfamiliar position of needing help themselves.
Family and friends have been asking how to help, which is why we have started this GoFundMe. This fundraiser is about lifting the daily weight off their shoulders. The funds raised will go directly to Rob and Andrea to help cover rent, living expenses and any unexpected costs while Rob cannot work. Most importantly, it will allow Andrea and Rob to maintain a sense of normality for Thomas and Matilda, ensuring the kids can stay in their current sports and after school activities without disruption during a chaotic time.
We are so grateful for any help you can give. Whether it is through a donation/koha, sharing this fundraiser, or keeping Rob in your positive thoughts and prayers. It means more than words can say.
On behalf of the Bristow, Giraldo and Wynyard families, thank you for supporting Rob, Andrea, Thomas and Matilda xxx
