Support Robin's Recovery From Stroke

Donation protected
Family and Friends,

This is Sydney here. It’s never easy to ask for help but I’m reaching out to you on behalf of my mom, Robin Evitts, in hopes of mitigating some of the financial stress she’ll undoubtedly come to face over the next few months. If you know Robin, you know she is the most hardworking, independent, vivacious and kindhearted individual. You also probably know she is a proud new grandmother, an amazing mother and a dedicated friend to so many. I know her as the incredible, resilient woman that raised two pretty awesome kids, worked day in and day out to provide for them and fought on countless occasions to make sure they had the childhood any kid deserves. She fought for me, now it’s my turn to fight for her.

On April 14th my mom suddenly lost complete vision in both eyes and she was advised to go to the emergency room immediately due to the possibility of a stroke. Upon arrival at the ER, they performed all the standard medical imaging procedures (MRI, X-rays, CT scans) on her heart and brain to try and identify the problem. Everything came back normal at the time except for a few small signs of stroke they identified from the brain MRI. The cause of the mini-strokes could not be determined, and she was admitted to the hospital for further evaluation.

On Sunday, April 16th, my mom suffered a much larger stroke that left her debilitated with the inability to move, speak, or communicate in any way. As no cause could be determined from the previous testing and imaging, the doctors decided to perform a transesophageal echocardiogram and lumbar puncture to satisfy the next steps in identifying the issue. Unfortunately, these tests came back normal as well and further testing would be necessary, but they were strongly considering Vasculitis as a possible diagnosis. At that time they decided to perform a cerebral angiogram to confirm their speculations, however, this came back normal as well. In a last-ditch effort to identify the cause of the strokes, the neurology team advised it would be necessary to perform a brain biopsy that would in theory confirm or deny vasculitis and determine the correct course of treatment accordingly. The biopsy has come back normal and all resources seem to have been exhausted. At this time my mom is recovering very slowly but any progress is relieving to see. They’ve begun treating her for vasculitis, though unconfirmed, and are hopeful that she will make a full recovery in time with no reoccurrences of stroke.

My mom’s road to recovery will not be a short one. She’s in need of aggressive physical, speech and occupational therapy and will have to go directly to a rehab facility following her discharge from the hospital. The amount of time she will be out of work is unclear and unpredictable, it will all depend on her individual day-to-day physical and mental progression. This is where we come in to try and help alleviate as much of the financial burden as possible so that she can focus on what’s most important, getting better.

Unfortunately, she does not have any long or short-term disability coverage and therefore will not be receiving any income for an indefinite amount of time. Her elected insurance plan will cover 80% of her hospital stay and rehab however she will be responsible for 20%. This is without a doubt going to be a substantial amount of money which we will of course try negotiating down as much as possible.

We can’t cure her or speed up her recovery, but we can help ease the financial burden and resulting stress that she’s facing due to the unexpected medical emergency. If you would like to help support my mom during these hard times, any donation would be greatly appreciated. All funds raised will go directly to Robin’s medical/rehabilitation costs and living expenses while she is unable to work.

If you can’t afford to give yourself, please consider sharing her story with your own friends and family (#RobinsRecovery) on her behalf. Any contribution makes a big difference!!! To avoid any fees collected by this platform, contributions through any of the following alternate services will ensure more money goes directly to Robin’s recovery:

Apple Pay: Family/close friends can send it to Sydney or Robin’s cell.

On behalf of Robin and her entire family, I appreciate the outpouring of love, prayers and support shown over the past couple of weeks and undoubtedly, in the months to come. You all are absolutely amazing and appreciated more than words can begin to express. Please reach out to me if you want to help in other ways!

Most sincerely,
Sydney Evitts (Robin's daughter)
