Hi, my name is Kimberly and I am raising money for my mom, Robin. Last May she finally had surgery for Diverticulitis, which she had been dealing with as long as I can remember. The surgery went fine, but they sent her home too soon and she ended up with an infection that almost killed her. By the time she got back to the hospital she was septic and was rushed into another surgery. Unfortunately, this meant she had to get an ostemy bag and it landed her in the hospital for yet another long stay. Complication after complication, she was stuck there almost all summer and had to undergo multiple surgeries. Once she was sent home, she had to find a new normal as she healed very slowly. A 6 week leave from work for the original surgery turned into months.
We thought she was improving, as she was finally taken off the congestive heart failure list, until New Years Eve 2023. That night she experienced a heart attack, putting her back in the hospital and back on the congestive heart failure list. At a follow up doctor appointment she was made aware her employer dropped her insurance without letting her know. For the last several months her doctors have been trying to find the right recipe of meds for her heart and she has been fighting to get her insurance coverage back long enough to get on Medicare.
In late March, my mom was alone for the first time in almost a year and fell, twisting both ankles and breaking multiple bones in the center of her left foot. While at the hospital, waiting for the swelling to go down for surgery, she experienced severe pain and complications with her ostemy and had to undergo yet another surgery! After weeks in the hospital they were finally able to do surgery on her foot and send her home days later, unable to put any weight on it.
As her foot heals, we still hope for her surgery to reverse the ostemy. Once that is complete, her cardiologist wants to put a pacemaker in. With all of the surgeries, doctors appointments, and expensive medications, it has been a real struggle to stay above water. She has yet to be approved to go back to work and they are looking at putting her on disability.
If you know Robin at all, she does not like to ask for help. But she is here and in need of our help. We worry about her financial stress and stress it places on her heart. As she focuses on recovery, we hope you will consider donating to help relieve the financial burden. We truly appreciate any help you can provide. Every dollar helps and counts.
