Support Robin's Efforts for Phoebe's Recovery

My name is Brooke Marshall. My mother, Robin Marshall, took in this beautiful baby girl kitten that's about 4 months old. She's since named her Phoebe!

This little girl was wandering around the outside of her house alone and hiding under her deck for several weeks. A couple of weeks ago, she knew we were getting our first snow. This little girl was too small to be out in that cold weather. My mom also noticed she was walking with a limp. After some trial and error, and much to the dismay of her two male cats, Ross and Joey, she finally got Phoebe in the house. Within a couple of days, my mom took Phoebe to the vet with the intention to ensure she was okay and find her a forever home. After X-rays, it was determined that Phoebe's back leg was broken in two places and dislocated. My mom was informed that if she surrendered her to a shelter, they would try to help her but might need to euthanize her. My mom felt that wasn't a risk she wanted to take. So after paying for all her vaccines and leukemia testing, Phoebe came home with some pain medication. My mom consulted with several different orthopedic surgeons from Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. They unanimously stated that she was too small (3 lbs) to be under anesthesia for the length of time needed. They also stated, even if they would risk it, her leg would require lots of hardware as her femur was dislocated on top of two breaks in the lower part of her leg. After many consultations and tears, it was decided Phoebe's best chance was to amputate the leg. My mom made the couple-hour journey to the orthopedic surgeon last week for Phoebe's surgery. The surgeon assured my mom that many cats have fantastic long healthy lives with three legs. Also, given that Phoebe is just a kitten, she will adapt. Knowing my mom, it was clear, Phoebe has a forever home now!

However, there has been a big unexpected expense. The only way my mom was eligible for assistance was if she surrendered her to the shelter knowing they might decide to euthanize. Since she chose not to do that, she was responsible for all out-of-pocket costs...vaccines, surgery, supplies, medications, and all follow-up care. She did it anyway on her retirement income.

If anyone knows my mom, they know her heart is too big. She will be there for anyone at any time for any reason. She gives and gives without asking anything in return. I'm hoping we can come together and do the same for her. I'd like to try and recuperate some of the out-of-pocket expenses she's paid to give Phoebe the best life ever! Please help me show my mom how grateful we are for people like her. Let's show her the love she shows for everyone, even fur babies! Any contribution is much appreciated! Phoebe may have lost a leg, but she hit the lottery with a family who loves their fur babies unconditionally!
