Support Robert Toms' Heart Transplant Journey

Donation protected
Robert Toms, a father, son, and good friend to so many. If you know Robert, you know his fun personality, his ability to really make you laugh, but most of all, you know he has the biggest personality and love for his family and friends.

When Robert was 21 years old, an infection attacked his heart. The outcome of this infection was a defibrillator device in his chest, to sustain his heart through life. This life saving device, helped Robert for many great years. Robert was able to work at times, multiple jobs, coached his daughter Mikaylah in Travel Softball, and lived a fairly normal life, with continuous doctor follow ups and lots of medications.

Unfortunately, about 7 years ago, Robert’s defibrillator started “firing”. Each time sending Robert to the hospital, for extended stays, procedures, adjustments to meds and more. The hits from the defibrillator started becoming more and more frequent, and his heart was starting to fail.

Robert as been at Hopkins CC-ICU for just about a month currently. This event the most serious as his heart was failing, as well as other organs. The group of physicians and medical staff at Hopkins have been monitoring him and Robert has had multiple procedures/devices placed, over the last few weeks, to assist his heart.

Robert was added to the Heart Transplant list as a top priority. We are ecstatic to share, Robert received a donor heart, and had a successful transplant surgery, Saturday, May 4, 2024. The surgery took about 7.5 hours, and the doctors were very pleased with the outcome. Robert is making forward progress every day. Although he has had small issues arise, the doctors are handling them as they come, while continuing forward with his care and rehabilitation. He is so thankful to be on the other side of transplant surgery. He understands he has a long road ahead, and appreciates so much, the Prayers, love and support for him and his family. Robert is optimistic and in good spirits but also weak and tired.

Robert’s Parents and daughter have been by his side through it all. Prayers are most requested for the family and Robert’s recovery. All money raised will be for medical expenses, extended hospital stays and travel and for sustainability of life, while recovering directly to Robert.
