I was diagnosed with gum cancer in my upper right gum (massive maxillary mass/tumor: 5.4 cm long/Stage 4) at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center, Los Angeles, California. I had to undergo surgery to remove the massive tumor on July 28, 2025, with the supervision of Head & Neck Surgeon Dr. Keith Blackwell and Oral Surgeon Dr. Payam Afzali of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. You can always check with UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center stating my name, Robert Gomes (D.O.B: 06/06/1959). I was hospitalized for a month. Now I have been doing radiation for 30 sessions at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital (Oncology/Radiation), which will be followed by chemotherapy at Los Angeles Cancer Center shortly. After surgery, an obturator was placed in my mouth to fill the empty/hollow space in my mouth as almost the entire upper jawbone and gum were removed to save my life.
I am not able to eat regular food and unable to drink as well. My wife feeds me protein shakes through a G-tube attached to my stomach. My ongoing radiation has made it harder to swallow. I lost my job since I was hospitalized on July 18, 2025. My wife is also disabled. I am really having financial, physical, mental, and emotional hardship because my wife and I are not able to cover the mandatory expenses, for instance, house rent, utility bills, medical bills, copays, and others. I beg your consideration and understanding to help me out to fight against cancer as I have a second cancer in my lungs (Stage 1). Should you have any questions, please feel free to call or text me at [phone redacted]. I live in Los Angeles, California, at the address stated below.
