Hi, my name is Jeff and I have setup this GoFundMe account to help my brother, Robert, with his Medical bills.
The following is a little history for context. In Sept he started a new job working in Fairfax, IA installing Network Cabling Infrastructure and when November rolled around he got sick. He was admitted to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids on for severe pneumonia in the lower left lung and as a consequence it was discovered he had cardiovascular heart disease. Bottom line he would need a tipple bypass surgery once he was over his pneumonia. At that time He was given heavy does of several antibiotics and released from the hospital..
Now, he notified his employer of the need for the surgery in the very near future. They in turn notified him according to company policy since he hasn't worked for the company for a year yet he did not qualify for medical leave which would be required to have the surgery. In short the surgery and recovery time would result in a separation from the company.
Towards, the end of his recovery from pneumonia he had what the doctors describe as a "sync" episode at work which basically means his heart stop and restarted after a brief moment in time. This resulted in him blacking out for a short time and the doctors yanked his driving privilege's. Since this employer requires he be able to drive, after 3 weeks he was officially terminated in January.
At this stage it was determined he had recovered from the pneumonia and he had the open heart surgery before his insurance expired..
Some additional information. At the time the pneumonia was discovered, his employer based insurance had kicked in and covered a nice chunk of the expense. The insurance deductible, $3000, though wiped out his savings and was reset a the being of the year. He has obtained COBRA insurance but it costs 800/month and he must maintain the insurance through his recovery and up to the time he can find work again. This of course does not include living expenses for that period and any other medical expenses not covered by insurance.
With that I appeal to friends, family, and the gamer community he is a apart of for help. Any amount will help him bridge the gap until he is back to full health and able to work again. Excess funds will go to KidNeeds ( https://kidneeds.lab.uiowa.edu/ )
