Hi I’m Dottie my wonderful soulmate have been together for almost 15 years. We married in December 2012. We definitely have had our ups and downs but all couples do. We or I am asking for some much needed help. The doctors are giving my no time frame for when Robby will be getting out of ICU or more less the hospital. I am not sure how long Robby will be u recouperating at home. There might be a chance he won’t be able to work again. My employer per my medical doctor has me working 2-3 days 4 hours each day. We desperately needed some help with the loss wages with my small paycheck we aren’t going to be able to pay any of our bills. Our bills are the necessary ones. We do not have any extra charges for streaming services, we try living below our means.
Also, with Robby in ICU for an unknown remaining amount of time. Robby’s medical bills are going to be so enormously expensive. With our healthcare system we are not going to be able to take care of what is due after deductible.
This is the awful event that happened
Early Sunday morning my husband collapsed to the floor in our hallway. It looked like a dark brownish color he had vomited on the floor and himself. I noticed he had the same dark brownish mucus/liquid coming out of his nose. I rolled him over on his side so he wouldn’t choke on whatever if anything he might be vomiting. I called 911 and started giving him CPR immediately. I turned on the outside lights and unlocked the door for EMS. The lady dispatcher said that the EMS is pulling up now. I heard them at the door and I screamed that the door was unlocked. I told them that we were upstairs. The EMT’s told me that I could stop CPR that they were take over.
While the EMT’s took over I went downstairs so that the police officer could talk to me. I told him the exact same thing that I told the female dispatcher.
EMT’s worked on Robby for what seemed like hours but it was only about 30-45 minutes. One of the EMT’s came downstairs and told me that because I had done CPR I had saved his life. I would have done anything to save him.
EMS transported Robby to Cannon Memorial Hospital here in Newland. He was brought directly to the Emergency Room. The police officer followed me to the hospital to make sure I made it safely. When I got there I had to wait outside the Emergency Room until they got Robby hooked up. The police officer asked if I had eaten anything and I said no. He went and got me some breakfast. He told me that he would sit and wait with me but he had to go back to work. He gave me his police card so I can thank him later.
I called the preacher of the church that Robby and I have been attending. When I told him and his wife what had happened he was there within 10-15 minutes.
As soon as Preacher Price arrived I was able to see him in the Emergency Room at Cannon. He already had a breathing tube, all types of tubes coming from all different ways. His blood pressure was very very low at 22/16. Robby was going to be transported to Watauga Memorial Hospital in Boone to the ICU. They would be able to take better care of him there. Preacher Price drove me to Boone so I could leave my car in Newland. He didn’t want me to drive down the mountain while I was crying and upset.
The Preacher and I stayed at the hospital until about 6:00 on Sunday evening. Everyone wanted me to go home and get some rest. The staff said it would be extremely difficult for me to be able to get any type of rest in the ICU waiting room. I put up a fight. I did not want to leave Robby. After a lot of persuasion from I couldn’t tell you I finally agreed to go home. Before I left I went to let Robby know that I was going to go home and try to get some rest. I told him my heart is forever his and I would be praying so very hard for him to get better. Our preacher said a prayer over me and Robby. Before I left his room I spoke directly to him and held his hand. He squeezed my hand when he heard my voice and even opened his eyes and looked at me. He then closed his eyes back. His hands were strapped to the bed because he had been trying to take his breathing tube out. I told him that he couldn’t do that because that tube was going to help him come back home. I told him that I loved him always and forever.
The preacher took me back to my car at Cannon. I asked him who did the Sunday service that morning and he said that he had that covered.
It took me forever to get to sleep but I didn’t sleep long. When I woke up I thought it was a terrible nightmare. Until I searched around and he wasn’t nowhere to be found. I received a call from Robby’s nurse from 3rd shift and they told me that they think he might have toxic shock and possibly could have sepsis in his blood. They were going to take him to CT again.
Would everyone please say a prayer for Robby that he gets better and that he’s able to come home to everyone who loves him. I want to thank everyone for reading this post and keeping him in your thoughts and prayers. I am trying to post an update daily. If I miss a daily update I will post it with the next update.
This post is from the day of Robby’s admittance and from the second day. I’m apologize these 2 days did run together. It seemed like it all took place in 1 day.
Update - September 2
Robby’ nurse called me with his updates. As of right now Robby is requiring less blood pressure medication because his pressure seems to be at a safe place. He is not struggling with the ventilator. The CT he had didn't show any more infection. The doctors feel like the sepsis is coming from pneumonia in his lungs. Otherwise, he is holding on. He is definitely putting up one heck of a fight. He IS NOT ready to leave any of us.
Please please continue to pray for Robby
Update September 3
The doctor late last night called me and told me that yesterday he was improving to the point they thought they could remove the life support tube and wing him off of the sedation medication. I went to bed knowing Robby was making wonderful progress.
This morning I received a call from Watauga Memorial. I thought that I was going to receive additional good news. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The doctor told me that overnight Robby ended up getting worse. His fever spiked back up to 102. He still has mucus coming from the tube in his lung.
They called me because they needed my consent in order to perform 2 procedures. One procedure was to do a bronchoscope. That is when a small camera is inserted in his mouth toward his lung in order to obtain a specimen to take to the lab to see if this is what might be causing an infection which his causing his fever to spike again. The next procedure would consist of the removal of the central line from his breathing tube attached to his life support machine. They will then place a new central line into his breathing tube. They will then take the tube that was extracted to the lab to see if this might be causing the infection that is causing a 102 degree fever. If the lab shows one or both of these issues are causing an infection then medication will be administered to help fight the infection.
I have not heard anything from the medical team regarding the results of these tests.
I have been praying every chance I get. My heart aches for Robby. He has no idea what is going on. My heart breaks for the man that I love
