Support Robbin's Journey to Stability

Donation protected
I saw Robbin and her dog Mia collapsed on the sidewalk in Roseville, California, last July on one of the hottest days on record. I stopped to see if they needed help, water, shade, or food. I gave her an umbrella out of my car and some water. We went to Cane’s Chicken and had lunch together. I gave her some money, a gift card for more food, and my business card and told her to let me know anytime she needed help.

Since that day, Daniel and I have been trying to help as we were able, taking her and her fellow homeless companions supplies, water, and dog food.

The police simply harass homeless people, ticket them, and give them minutes to pack up everything they own and move on. It’s only gotten worse since Governor Newsom declared war on the homeless of California, which is absolutely evil.

Robbin has been homeless for over six years and struggled with addiction issues, regular abuse, and her eldest daughter was murdered a few years ago. Most recently, her partner was murdered as well.

There are few resources for homeless people, and those that are available are stretched way too thin. You have to be a “resident” of whatever county you seek help in, and they tell you the same thing over and over: call 211. If you’re mentally, physically, or emotionally disabled, it’s even harder to access what few resources exist.

After being moved at least three times in the first couple of months we knew her, she finally made it up to Auburn, closer to us, where she was physically attacked one night. Robbin asked the police officer to call us and asked us to come get her wagon, belongings, and Mia as she was taken to the hospital, where they promptly released her back into homelessness, which is actually illegal. Daniel and I called the local shelters, sheriff, anyone, trying to get her into the local “tent” city shelter. We were told the only way to get her admitted was by local law enforcement. We called the sheriff, and they were clueless. Finally, the officer responding met Robbin outside of the hospital. She had no warm clothes, was in physical pain, and still had nowhere to go. Meanwhile, her attacker, another homeless man, was still on the streets. The officer was able to get her into tent city for ONE night, where she was told she’d need to be out by 8 am the next morning. We put her in a hotel for a few nights while we called every resource we could find. We were finally able to get her into tent city for a few nights, and then got her into another shelter, again, only temporary. These shelters are filled with other people on drugs, violence and theft occur regularly, so they’re not entirely safe. Finally, she was able to get into a semi-permanent shelter for abused women and families that would also allow her to have Mia, her own room, and access to social workers and programs. Daniel would spend days with her, driving from one office to the next, trying to find more help and access more social services.

Robbin has been clean and sober since October 2024 and looks like a completely different person. We have been helping her with things, and she has a few social workers that have been helping her access her SSI benefits, look for a job, get the medical care she needs, and find an apartment with assisted living benefits.

As of this week, she let us know she’s been accepted into an apartment and will finally have her own place after years and years of living on the street.

We are starting this GoFundMe as a way to help raise some money to assist her in getting into her apartment and to help her and Mia get settled and comfortable.

She has made incredible progress but will always require assistance.

Our forgotten population needs help. After seeing what the options are, it’s very depressing and not hard to understand why most people can’t regain a normal life once they’re on the street.
