On Sunday November 30 my dad, Robbie Hale, had a heart attack and was life flighted to Evansville to see what could be done. We were told on Monday that he was stabilized and would need triple bypass surgery.
Thursday, December 4th, my dad underwent successful double bypass surgery. The doctor said the third one was going to be a little trickier to fix and was a “judgement call” not to fix and didn’t want to risk my dad’s heart not beating for additional 45min-1hour. We didn’t know until after the surgery that one of the veins FIXED was in fact the widow maker and was 99% blocked.
My dad is due out of the hospital somewhere around December 10 or 11th if things go as planned. Maybe one of the more challenging things is during all of this, finding someone to take care of my mom. My mom has had MS for 30 years and has been bound to a wheelchair for the better part of 20.
My wonderful wife headed back home as soon as we heard the news to tend to my mother, and has done so and will do so until my dad is home. I have never asked for anything in my adult life and who do you think I get that from? That’s right, my dad. If there’s one person on earth that I feel deserves something and would never ask for it, it would be my dad.
Before the surgery, my dad asked us to look for someone in the Home Healthcare business to help with my mom for the next 90 days while he recovers. I’m assuming that’s going to be a decent size bill. Could my dad pay for it? I guarantee you he would find a way. After working at Fairfield Memorial Hospital for 40 years and serving his community in many different ways, I feel it would be nice to show him how many people truly care about him and how many people are willing to help.
I honestly don’t have a clue at this moment how much everything will cost but anything sure will help.
My idea is to present all money collected to him when we go back to visit at Christmas.
Thanks for taking the time to read and God Bless.
