Greetings Friends, Family, and Supporters of Rob McCue,
My dear friend, Rob McCue, was diagnosed with Stage IV cancer in August of 2023. He immediately received chemotherapy followed by radiation treatments, which have been fairly successful. However, he will need surgery to remove any remaining cancer, and will unfortunately have to do another round of chemo before the surgery. We had hoped he could do the surgery sooner, and forgo chemo for now, but he will have to go to Seattle for the surgery and it is currently unknown how soon it can take place. He is making a trip to Seattle to meet with the surgeon next week (June 10th) and we are hopeful that the surgery can be scheduled sooner than later.
Rob’s sister’s family has been helping with high insurance deductibles and Michele’s family has also helped tremendously with general expenses. They’ve also had lots of help from friends who have provided delicious food and support with the things that Rob wasn’t able to do while receiving his treatments. They are very grateful for all the love, kindness and support. However, even with all of the financial support, after a year of treatment, their resources are rapidly depleting. They had hoped to be done with treatments this summer and planned to focus on Rob’s full recovery, but there is more treatment needed at this time.
While the majority of his medical expenses are being covered by insurance, travel is not covered. He, his wife Michele, and son Cord, have made a few trips to Anchorage where he received radiation and other consults and he will now have to make at least 2 to 3 trips to Seattle. Additionally, Rob has not been working in order to focus on his healing and recovery. He will need to continue to focus his efforts on healing and will be unable to work for some time.
If you know Rob, you know he is an amazing human who is a wonderful husband, father, and friend to so many. He is a long-time Fairbanksian and a true lover of Alaska with a take on life that is honest, genuine and oftentimes hilarious. He cares deeply for this community and has always fought the good fight for the people and land that he loves and has supported many people in their time of need throughout the years. He is also a published author, super extreme gardener, hunter and provider, single track maniac, backcountry expert/guide, and a kick-ass chef! I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy many a meal with the Robinson McCue’s as I have the good fortune of being their neighbor and can personally attest to his culinary skills! He is truly one of the best that there is and I’d like to help alleviate some of the financial stress for him and his family so that they can focus on healing, recovery, and caring for each other during this difficult time.
