Support Rob Helmkay’s Road to Recovery

Hi my name is Kandace and I am asking for your help and support for Rob Helmkay his wife Jeanette and family as he recovers in hospital from an acute stroke he had suddenly on July 12

Just five days ago, Jeanette’s life changed in an instant. Her husband, Rob Helmkay, suffered a sudden acute stroke caused by a tear in the artery in his neck — something no one ever expects, and no family should have to face.

Rob is currently in the ICU at the Halifax Infirmary. He’s unable to move his right side, can’t swallow (he’s on a feeding tube), and is now battling a lung infection that’s caused fluid buildup and the need for oxygen. He’s on several medications to help reduce a large clot still in his neck.

Despite all of this, Rob is alert. He knows who and where he is and can still speak, though his speech is slurred. His strength and awareness give us hope, but the road ahead will be long.

Rob has always been the one lifting others up, whether through his family-run concrete business or simply being the dependable guy people turn to. Now it’s our turn to support him.

Rob and Jeanette are high school sweethearts and a hardworking team. Jeanette manages the phones from home while Rob handles job estimates. With Rob unable to work and Jeanette by his side at the hospital, they’re facing an uncertain future — not just medically, but financially.

Let’s rally together to ease the burden. Rob needs to focus on healing, not worrying about how to keep their lives and business afloat.
