Hi everyone,
My name is Riyan Vishwanath and I am a Life Scout in Troop 359 in San Marino, CA. For my Eagle Project, I want to help the Huntington Middle School (HMS) band by remodeling one of the band rooms into a percussion storage room.
Huntington Middle School is the school that I attended, which was recognized as a National Blue-Ribbon school in 2021. The Visual Arts & Performing Arts (VAPA) program is very strong, and music education starts as early as 5th grade when elementary school students get the opportunity to try an instrument as an enrichment activity. I first started Band in 2021 when I chose to play the trumpet. Over time, I have improved- thanks to Mrs. Simpson's guidance, I am currently first-chair trumpet in HMS Wind Ensemble, play in the HMS Jazz Band and the Pasadena Youth Symphonic Orchestra (PYSO). Given Mrs. Simpson's unwavering support over the last three and a half years, I wanted to find a way to help the HMS Band in return.
My goal will be to create a space where percussion equipment can be stored safely in an easy-to-retrieve organized space. This will include shelves to keep drums, cymbals and gongs, and a large pegboard with hooks and racks to keep mallets, maracas and tambourines, along with other miscellaneous percussion equipment. These additions will keep the band more organized; it will be visually appealing, and it will be easier to find the equipment, especially when musicians need it immediately.
Approximately, my Eagle Project budget could be broken down in a simplified manner as below:
Materials (plywood, pegboard, screws, rack, clear paint)- $ 1000
Safety gear for volunteers- $100
Supplies (trash bags, food/ drink for volunteers, cleaning material)- $100
I appreciate any contribution to my project and hope to recognize your support in my Eagle Project report. Your contributions will directly benefit the Huntington Middle School Band and will help create this legacy project that will benefit generations of band and orchestra students at HMS. Any excess funds raised will be donated to HMS.
Thank you so much for your support!
Sincerely,
Riyan Vishwanath
