For over sixty years, Riverside Basic School has been a cornerstone of the Montego Bay community. Founded in 1959 by Reverend and Mrs. Cato, the school began humbly in a single church room with only eight children and one teacher. Today, it has grown into a two-story school serving nearly 90 students with the dedication of four teachers, a cook, and a janitor. Generations of children have passed through its classrooms, gaining the foundation they need for a brighter future.

But like so many schools in Jamaica, Riverside Basic School faces ongoing struggles with limited funding. Teachers and staff work tirelessly, but the resources are simply not enough to meet the needs of the children. Many families struggle to pay tuition, and the school itself requires urgent upgrades to create an environment where children can thrive.

Our Mission

Through the Jamaica Schools Foundation, we are raising funds to provide critical improvements and long-term stability for Riverside Basic School and other schools in need.

Our goals include:

• Creating a fully stocked library and improving access to technology

• Upgrading toilets and installing cleaning stations for better hygiene

• Building a safe playground to promote healthy play and development

• Installing air conditioners and repairing the electrical system

• Creating a proper lunchroom and a fund to provide free lunches for children in need

• Purchasing folding chairs and repainting the school inside and out

• Establishing a budget to pay teachers fairly and consistently

• Setting up a student support fund to help families pay tuition and provide toiletries
