“MAN DOWN” – Help Us Fight Riley’s Rare Cancer Battle*
*A Navy veteran. A devoted husband. A life turned upside down.*
Riley Nunley, just 39 years old, went to the doctor for what he thought was a minor pain. He never expected to leave with a devastating cancer diagnosis.
Doctors removed a large tumor, but something didn’t add up. Specialists at MD Anderson were called in. The final diagnosis was shocking: Metastatic ovarian epithelial-type carcinoma of paratesticular origin**—an extremely rare and aggressive cancer that’s almost unheard of in men. It has already spread to Riley’s lungs, lymph nodes, and heart.
Despite enduring over 6 surgeries and being diagnosed with 6 different cancers, Riley is still fighting.
He is a warrior—quiet, strong, and full of faith.
*Our Love Story: Riley & Barbara*
Riley joined the U.S. Navy in 2004, proudly serving for 6 years. That same year, he met (me), Barbara—literally the girl next door. He told me right away he was going to marry me.
Three months later, on September 20, 2010, we said “I do.” We’ve been inseparable ever since.
Riley is calm, generous, and loves the peace of fishing on open water. I’m his opposite—spunky, passionate about animals, full of fire and energy. Together, we face every storm with one motto:
“WE GOT THIS.”
*The Battle We’re Facing Now*
Riley’s cancer has spread rapidly. The doctors gave us the worst news—we may only have one year left together.
But we’re not giving up!
We’re exploring treatment trials, but they may not be covered by insurance. Riley continues working despite the pain to keep his insurance active, but if he becomes too weak, we could lose coverage entirely. And my job doesn’t cover care at MD Anderson.
We’re drowning in medical debt. Our credit cards are maxed out from co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket treatments. With two catheters in his lungs to drain fluid daily, Riley’s care is intense, constant, and critical.
*Why We’re Asking for Help*
I created this fundraiser to:
1. Cover life-saving treatments and out-of-pocket medical costs
2. Travel to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for a second opinion from a rare cancer specialist
3. Move Riley closer to family for support and comfort
4. Keep our heads above water—our monthly bills are $2,900, and we have no luxuries. Just basic living expenses.
I’m working full-time while being Riley’s caregiver, but it’s a heartbreaking choice—do I work to keep us afloat, or stay home with my husband during the fight of his life?
*How You Can Help*
We believe in miracles —in the power of community, compassion, and prayer.
If you can donate, even a little, we humbly ask for your help.
If you can’t donate, please share this page with your network. It truly makes a difference.
And most importantly, please pray for Riley.
We know God doesn’t give us battles we can’t face—especially not alone.
With your support, we can hold on to hope and keep fighting.
