Support Riley's Battle Against Mucormycosis
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and members of our cherished communities,
Riley is in the ICU at this time, and has been hospitalized since early August battling mucormycosis, a life-threatening fungal infection of the mouth and sinuses that he contracted following a case COVID-19. He has already undergone several surgeries, and there will be more. The gravity of the situation cannot be overstated.
We are blessed and grateful to be able to say this was caught as early as possible—thanks to Riley’s own insight and quick thinking—and that he has the fiercest advocate imaginable in his wife Rachel. However, the treatment for this condition is brutal—months of daily antifungal infusions that do grave damage to the kidneys (requiring constant monitoring) and aggressive surgical interventions that may necessitate facial reconstruction. We should be aware that Riley’s facial appearance may change following these surgeries. We are working and praying for the best outcomes, but achieving those outcomes is going to take everything of themselves that Riley and Rachel have to give.
That’s where we come in.
Riley’s prognosis and treatment—and his family’s support needs—are changing almost hourly. We (her cousin Kelly, and Steven, a friend from way back) have created this fundraiser to build a financial buffer for the family and take as many burdens off their plates as possible, so they devote all their attention to Riley’s recovery and the wellbeing of their two boys, ages 7 and 9.
Your donation will help with gas, meals and groceries, reliable transportation, childcare; towards necessary home improvements to support Riley’s recovery and prevent reinfection, and towards a thousand things we frankly can’t yet anticipate.
Please hold Riley in the light (as Quakers say), and thank you.
Kelly and Steven
