Rik has always put others before himself. As his mom, I’ve watched him spend his adult life helping friends, family, and even strangers, never asking for anything in return. Now, Rik is facing some of the toughest challenges I’ve ever seen him endure. Six months ago, he lost his job because of government cuts, and his ability to search for new work is limited by ongoing health issues. Rik lives with Functional Neurological Disorder, Sleep Apnea, and Diabetes, and doctors are monitoring him for possible Multiple Sclerosis. He relies on walking sticks for balance and sometimes has difficult breathing episodes. Even with all of this, Rik’s determination and faith never waver. He refuses to let his health struggles change his spirit or outlook on life.

Rik has used up his unemployment benefits and savings, and now the stress of his mortgage and medication costs weighs heavily on him. He’s a proud man who would never ask for help himself, but as his mom, I want to make sure he doesn’t have to worry about losing his home or missing vital medications while he continues his job search.
