On November 15th, our family’s world changed when my 8-year-old nephew, Riker, was severely burned in an unexpected accident. Riker is the happiest and most kind little boy you could meet—he loves giving hugs to everyone and is always eager to help, whether it’s handing someone a tool or cheering up his big sister and mom. He’s incredibly observant, loves taking things apart (and putting them back together), and is happiest when he’s outside riding his bike, fishing, camping, or playing with friends.

Riker’s injuries are serious and require extensive medical care, including multiple skin graft surgeries. He will be in the hospital for at least five weeks as he begins the long road to recovery. His mom, Abbie, is staying by his side every day and is unable to work during this time, which has made the financial burden overwhelming. Between medical bills, treatments, travel, and everyday expenses, their family is struggling to keep up.
