Support Ricky's Long Road to Recovery

Story

How it started " On May 2, I had a startling realization around 3:20 p.m. that my brother was in serious trouble. I immediately started messaging and calling him multiple times, hoping to hear his voice. By around 6 p.m., feeling a sense of urgency, I called my mom and urged her to go check on Ricky. To my absolute horror, Mom found him lying on the shop floor, positioned awkwardly on his left side. He was unable to speak and unable to move his body in any way. Curiously, he was lying there, vigorously spinning a desk chair wheel. We later learned that this odd behavior was something that kept him conscious and alert amidst the chaos." - Heather Since May 2nd, he has suffered two strokes, a heart attack, as well as a lung infection. Fast forward, we are on day 26. What we hoped to be an easy recovery, has turned into a much longer, harder process and road ahead. He had a Trach put in on May 22nd, making it easier for him to breath, but also making it harder for us to find him the long-term care he needs. There are only TWO facilities in the state of Alabama that take patients with Trach's long-term. We are in the process of getting him set up for Medicaid, but we were informed today, that IF he was accepted, they would only cover room and board wherever he goes. If he is able to be taken off the vent, we have more options as to where he can transfer to, but right now we are stuck. The next 21 days are going to be the hardest. We have to see how he is able to do off the vent, as well as have a plan as to where he can go after we made it to the end of June. As you can imagine, money is getting tight. We never wanted it to get to this point, but we are past the " too proud to ask" stage and we need help!! Mom and Heather have been at UAB nonstop since day one and cost is rising daily. We are fortunate enough to have made it this far with the help of a handful of people, but at this point we don't know what else to do other than to share his story and hope it can get us the help we all need. Any money raised will go towards a place for mom to stay until he is transferred out of UAB, as well as towards any medical needs he has that will have to come out of pocket. Heather has created a blog to share his story and any updates, and I hope you take the time to read and share. We can't thank each and every one of you enough for all the thoughts, prayers, calls, text and donations over the past month. We could not have done it without you all!!! If you would like to donate via Cash App, Venmo or PayPal, you can reach out to me, and I will send you the information. https://www.rickysjourneygodsplan.com/
