Hi everyone. My name is Ricky and I'm about to be 32 years old in September.
I have struggled with hearing problems my entire life. If you're close to me, then you know I've definitely asked you to repeat yourself on more than one occasion.
I recently went to have my hearing checked by a medical professional and I was told that I'm absolutely, without a doubt, a candidate for hearing aids.
The doctor explained me to that most people hear and speak at a certain decibel and that my hearing is at a much higher decibel, which means I'm constantly working harder to hear every day things. Because of this extra work my brain is having to do to make sense of things, I am at a higher risk of things such as dementia and cognitive decline.
He also explained to me the process of getting hearing aids, including where to go and how much they cost. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds to get them and it's going to take a decent amount of time for me to make this happen on my own so that's why I'm here asking for help.
I want you to know that getting hearing aids will make a significant and positive effect on my quality of life. Not only can being hard-of-hearing be quite embarrassing, but it makes life a little bit more difficult in so many different ways. I really want to stop having to ask people, "What?" every time they say something to me.
If you do decide to contribute to the goal or share this page, I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Thank you for even taking the time to read this.
