Hi, my name is Ricky. I am an independent Asian American filmmaker, and I just got accepted into the American Pavilion Cannes Student Program, BUT I need some help getting there!
For the past ten years, I have been wrestling with who I am and who I want to become. Growing up in a household that placed strong pressure on academics, I did not have many opportunities to creatively express myself. That changed when I randomly started making videos. I filmed my day-to-day life, came up with stories for my friends and me to act in, and even created short films. What started as curiosity slowly became something I could not let go of.
(First ever video I released 8 years ago - "Ricky's Vlog 1")
During my time at university, I realized that filmmaking is what gives me purpose. I may have fully understood that a little late, after graduating, but I am not giving up. This opportunity will allow me to grow even more in this craft and help in creating more stories that reflect who I am!

If you believe in supporting emerging Asian American voices and helping independent filmmakers take the next step, I would be incredibly grateful for your support. Any donation, big or small, supports me in paying program costs and gets me closer to Cannes.
Thank you for believing in my journey!
