For the past five years, I’ve been living with constant pain and limited movement in my shoulder. It’s affected nearly every part of my daily life, from simple tasks at home to being able to work comfortably. After years of trying to manage, I finally reached the point where shoulder replacement surgery became necessary. This year, I put everything I had into meeting my insurance out-of-pocket costs so I could get the surgery done and start the road to recovery.

Recently, the company I worked for was sold, and I lost my salary position and the extra insurance coverage that would have helped support me during my time off. I started a new job, and while my employer is giving me the time I need for surgery and recovery, I won’t receive any pay while I’m out. With my surgery scheduled for October 15 and a recovery period that could last up to six weeks, I’m facing a stretch with no income to cover my mortgage, utilities, and basic living expenses.
