Support Rick’s Recovery & Help Suu Care for Him
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Mark, and I am fundraising for my brother Rick and his wife Suu.
The picture is from back when he was a recording engineer in London. He worked with lots of bands and artists, including Ian Dury And The Blockheads, Japan and Chet Baker. As his little brother, I was in awe of this, and he was a huge influence on me. I nicked his records and magazines like Mad, Oz, and the weekly music papers, all of which which shaped my adult life.
In September 2024, Rick experienced what he initially described to friends and family on Facebook as "a teeny weeny heart attack." He went into his local hospital expecting a routine stent procedure, and we all assumed he'd be back home and feeling better in no time. However, things quickly became much more serious than anyone had anticipated. His condition was more complex than first thought, requiring major heart surgery.
Rick was transferred to Papworth Hospital in Cambridge for the procedure. During the operation, he suffered multiple strokes and was placed in a coma for several weeks. More than once during that terrifying time, we were told to prepare for the worst.
Through it all, Suu never left his side. She spent every day by his bedside, talking to him, encouraging him, and travelling back and forth from Lincolnshire to Cambridge, hoping for any sign of improvement. Eventually, Rick came out of the coma and stabilised, and he was transferred to a Critical Care ward in Peterborough, where he has remained ever since.
Rick is making progress, but his recovery is going to be a long and difficult journey. Suu has been his unwavering advocate and carer throughout this ordeal, but the financial burden is growing. The costs of travel, lost income, and the adjustments they will need to make at home for his long-term care are overwhelming.
We are raising funds to help support Suu as she continues to be by Rick’s side, ensuring he gets the best possible care. Any contributions will go towards covering ongoing expenses, and anything left over will be used for essential home adaptations to make their home safer and more accessible for Rick when he is finally able to return.
If you are able to donate, no matter how small, it would mean the world to us. If you can’t donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser to help spread the word.
Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
**UPDATE**
Suu and I are really moved by all your support, it's going to make all the difference. Thank you all so much. Suu tells me that £5 covers half her petrol and parking each day. It's been 143 days so far. This fundraiser is really taking some of the immediate financial pressure off, and that is truly helpful.
